There's Something About an Earl...

In Candace Camp's An Affair Without End, you really have to admire Vivian Carlyle.  Let's face it, how many women can wrap an earl around their finger and make them fall in love with her?  Oliver, the Earl of Stewkesbury, comes off as a staid, somewhat arrogant man that thinks he know's what is best for Vivian.  He also comes off as very proper, and what woman wants that?  Thank goodness he falls for her seduction, throwing caution to the wind and falling in love with this stubborn, independant woman who has a sense of mischief sure to drive Oliver to an early grave.  Doing his best to keep Vivian out of trouble, he comes out of his shell and you begin to fall a little bit in love with an earl who can kick ass, dig deep and pull forth the kind of grrrrrrrrrrrrrr that I like to see in a man.
Lady Vivian is a beautiful, hard headed woman who's temperament clashes with Oliver's at every turn.  So why does she feel attracted to him like she has been attracted to no other man before?  What Vivian wants, Vivian gets, and she decides she wants Oliver as her lover.  Following leads linked to jewel thefts and robberies, she begins to see that the attraction isn't just physical.  This is the only man for her, and she means to keep him for herself.
All in all, An Affair Without End is a great read, with well formed characters The plot is interesting, yet simple enough to be able to read for the sheer pleasure of sitting on your butt and letting your mind take you where the words lead.
